Excellent album, Van still has that ‘groove’. By katsdad
Still on the Celtic ray.
Van Morrison gets the finest musicians for his record projects, this to be fair. I bought this LP and on vinyl the sound is brilliant , and Van Morrison still delivers both with his voice and saxophone.
At this stage in his career Morrison has no need to write commercial songs, he writes what he observes and what he feels, and what he believes. Whilst this may sound as if his songs are notch catchy, they are, they’re just not trite pop tunes.
He may be the greatest singer/songwriter of a generation, of any generation, I think so. By Jarob54
Beautiful, thankyou Sir Morrison ❤️
Perfect, love it 😊 By Ramble Goldens
Overlooked in most of these self-righteous reviews is the album itself. It isn't very good. There's just no other way to put it. Clumsy lyrics and dull music. Van's stuff is always hit or miss, and when he's on top of his game he can be great. But this one's a miss. By The Bradleyss
I thought this album turned out good. Well done Van By johnny5ddff
This is a surprisingly good album by Van the Man. Topical, gutsy, and on point. He is expressing what many of us are feeling these days. Seems very few are brave enough, including Mr. Dylan. The music is top notch and his voice is in great form. The song forms are “traditional” with a strong Memphis vibe, but avoid becoming rote. I am enjoying this album much more than expected and it sounds like Mr. Van had fun making it. Thank God for Van Morrison! By JDog5280
finally an artist with critical thinking! By missdazyinla
Great lyrics! Liberalism is the new fascism. By Dridgeball35
What's Wrong With This Picture?
Make no mistake and as others have opined: had this album had lyrics like "Moondance Volume VIII" the critics would have praised it. They have LOVED, ADORED Morrison for years, even with the lesser releases. Then suddenly it's "crazy, angry, curmudgeon, conspiracy, misogynist, blah, blah"...pick your favorite pejorative to condemn. (not critique). This dude's been slamming the music biz, media and other powers that be for close on 50 years, and it's only now he gets the sleazy "anti-semitic dogwhistle" accusation??? Don't remember reading that kinda cheap shot that after "Hymns To The Silence" was released. For those who remember and get the reference: it's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" with the wide open mouth and frantically pointing out the hold-out. I agree with one reviewer who said this will be a "classic" in 20 years (i.e. "Much maligned upon release in 2021 NRPV1 was is now regarded as a time when one 60's icon stood to dissent while his comtemporaries said nothing, or worse, joined the cabal of those who would crush the dissent of those who 'question authority.'") Most reviews are personal, partisan, political commentary, not music reviews. I appeciate the sentiment - some of it not as strong as other parts. Make your own mind up. By LTCPCH
